Situation
Every year, 4.3 million girls undergo Female Genital Mutilation where their genitals are fully or partially removed or injured for non-medical purposes. This global issue is a breach of a girl’s human rights that can have severe, long-term effects on her physical and mental health which can cause infections, PTSD, extreme obstetric problems and even death sometimes. This harmful practice is a form of gender-based violence rooted in gender inequality aimed at controlling women's sexuality.
Solution
We are a catalyst to end FGM/C, by undertaking research and curating knowledge to equip the sector. We do so by undertaking research generating evidence, facilitating capacity strengthening of our partners through knowledge sharing and learning to improve programme design and influencing global and regional policies through advocacy. Our approach to sustainable abandonment of FGM/C is through non-judgemental, human rights-led, supporting communities to choose to end the practice themselves.
