Refugee Council is the first point of contact for all young refugees arriving alone in the UK. They may have PTSD, sleep issues, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. In 23/24, we worked with over 7000 young refugees, supporting them to find safety, to integrate, and to have hope for their future.

Unaccompanied refugees have seen their homes, families and communities torn apart. They have nowhere safe to return to. Unsure if they can stay, separated from their parents in a new culture, they struggle to find a sense of safety and belonging. On arrival, young people are faced with incorrect age assessments, laws stopping their parents joining them, and policies preventing their right to asylum. Tortured by anxiety and PTSD symptoms, it is difficult to integrate and engage with education.

Refugee Council worked with over 7,000 young people in 23/24, offering: - Therapeutic support for healing and resilience - Practical support and vital information for young refugees - Help for age-disputed children to prove their age and receive proper care - Practical guidance, social connections, and education The Refugee Council will continue to provide the provision and support needed to ensure hope and sanctuary for unaccompanied young refugees arriving in the UK.
