Premature birth is a complex issue with lifelong impact on babies & families. Borne’s mission is to end premature birth and improve outcomes for all involved. To achieve this goal, we must fund early-stage research, known as discovery science, to ensure no baby is born too soon.

Premature birth affects 1 in 10 babies globally. In the UK, 7% of infants are born premature and internationally, the rate can be as high as 24%. Premature birth is the leading cause of childhood death and is also associated with increased rates of disability among those who survive. Despite this, research into premature birth remains severely underfunded, both by governments and the pharmaceutical industry, resulting in the failure to identify any new effective treatments in the last 50 years.
