2024 was a difficult year for charities. Budgets we rely on were cut and oversubscribed - hitting small charities like us, hardest. We’re seeing youthwork deprioritized by government. We know meaningful change takes time and effort but with your help, we can be here to change young lives outdoors.

Situation
The lives of children and young people are getting more complex and challenging every year, particularly for those from low socio-economic backgrounds or from minority groups. Suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Scotland, and we haven’t yet seen the impact of the cuts and underfunding that have begun this year. Venture Scotland must be here to support young people with the long-term mental health support that they haven’t been able to access elsewhere.
Solution
Young people told us that they loved our old programme, but that they couldn’t commit to a full year whilst facing homelessness and zero-hours contracts; so we’ve honed our programme down to 6-months. Challenge Yourself– Learning to believe in yourself and trust in others. 1 month. Discover Yourself– Understanding your emotions and building positive relationships. 2 months. Empower Yourself– Transferring your learning into your home life and leading on the celebratory awards night. 3 months.
