An average of 2 children per class are affected by Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). They find it hard to understand what people are saying or get frustrated at not being able to express themselves. They struggle in school, where much of the curriculum depends on spoken language, & their difficulties affect most aspects of their lives. They are at risk of social isolation & economic exclusion. Parents told us there was a lack of support for them & their child on getting a diagnosis of DLD

Afasic organises a programme of 7 weekly sessions (approx. 75 minutes each) that provide vital information to parents about DLD & the impact it can have on their child. It is delivered by qualified professionals, recruited via NAPLIC, who are trained to deliver the course. The course outlines what DLD is (and isn’t), some of the common issues arising from DLD, & how children & young people can be supported within schools & at home. There are specific courses for primary school & secondary age
