Situation
Our campaign addresses the pressing issue of habitat fragmentation and biodiversity loss. Hanley Dingle, with its rare ecosystem of ancient woodland and temperate rainforest, is rich in biodiversity. However, due to its small size and isolation, it is left vulnerable. Lack of connectivity limits species movement and biodiversity, threatening the long-term sustainability of this precious habitat and hindering the potential growth of surrounding woodlands and new habitats.
Solution
Purchasing and restoring adjacent land will expand and buffer Hanley Dingle nature reserve, providing a larger, more diverse habitat for wildlife. Creating wildlife corridors will connect fragmented habitats and facilitate species movement. Restoration efforts, including planting native trees and creating new habitats such as scrublands, meadows and ponds, will enhance biodiversity. Additionally, these efforts will mitigate climate change through increased carbon sequestration.
