This is a critical time for the future of farming and our environment. Farmers are key to addressing the climate and nature crises and food security. The NFFN is supporting farmers to protect their soils, reduce run-off into water courses and rivers and boost the natural assets on their land.

Extreme weather patterns are impacting our farms, bringing either too little or too much water. Flooding events are increasingly washing away topsoil from fields. In 2024, the NFFN’s focus is on supporting farmers to start now or go even further in adopting nature-friendly practices that help tackle this problem. There is growing evidence that simple, practical nature solutions are key to healthy waterways from source to the sea.
Through its farmer-to-farmer knowledge sharing and at farm events, the NFFN is able to show how farmers can use cost-efficient and effective natural solutions to make their farmland more resilient to climate-related weather events. For example, nature-friendly practices such as winter cover crops and healthy biodiverse grassland strips along rivers and field edges can prevent soil from being washed away.
