Situation
• Diverse and equal leadership: there is still only one ethnic minority woman who has been elected to the Senedd in 20 years of devolution. • Creating a diverse pipeline of candidates: supporting women in preparing for candidacy for the 2026 Senedd elections. • Strengthening and protecting women’s human rights in Wales: enshrining the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in Welsh law.
Solution
• Our Diverse5050 campaign has made great progress on legislation for Senedd reform despite the disappointment of the Senedd Cymru (Electoral Candidate Lists) Bill being withdrawn. We will fight yet harder for a gender equal and diverse Senedd in 2026 and beyond. • Our Equal Power Equal Voice mentoring programme empowers women to put themselves forward for public and political life. • Our influencing and policy work to use devolved legislation to ensure the strongest protection for women in Wales.
