Many women who contact our service do so as victims or survivors of domestic abuse. Our local situation reflects the wider national situation where women are over represented as victims of this crime. In the year ending March 2023, the victim was female in 73.5% of domestic abuse-related crimes https://tinyurl.com/2d9w7f84 In financial year 2022-23 we had 3,307 unique visitors to our service (2,004 were new clients) At any time around 60 to 75% of clients have had experience of domestic abuse
Our #IBelieveYou team is a small, qualified and dedicated team of staff who work to support victims and survivors throughout their journey however long this may take. Our offer to people who come to us for support is not time limited or restricted by any eligibility criteria, other than disclosing as a victim or survivor and asking for help. Staff include a registered social worker, Independent Domestic Violence Advocates and staff with backgrounds in probation, housing, substance misuse etc.
