AWA DANCE is a CIO founded by choreographer Avatâra Ayuso. We are dedicated to the leadership development of women and teenage girls, using the transformative power of dance as the tool to empower their voices and we sit at the intersection of three areas: Dance + Leadership + Women & Girls issues.

AWA DANCE tackles the lack of opportunities and support for girls from diverse backgrounds in Birmingham, particularly those from the Global Majority, to become future leaders. With Birmingham being one of the most deprived and youngest areas in the country, many girls face barriers such as difficult home lives and limited access to role models. We provide a space for them to gain confidence, reflect, and articulate their dreams, empowering them to overcome obstacles and become the changemakers.

AWA DANCE empowers girls through: 1. Dance & Leadership Curriculum workshops harness the power of dance to promote physical and mental wellbeing, confidence, self-expression, communication skills, empathy, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, resilience, trust, and creative thinking. 2. The Girls in Dance Festival and Junior Ambassadors programme provide platforms for girls to showcase their talents, develop leadership skills, and become role models. 3. Specialised safeguard training
