To celebrate our 150th anniversary, we launched a fundraising campaign to create 150 transformational bursaries to provide even more opportunities for girls to benefit from a GDST education. We want to continue to improve the education and futures of as many girls as possible.

Social mobility is in decline in Britain, with more than half of people surveyed by a recent Social Mobility Commission stating that the government is failing to do enough to help the least well off. Social mobility for girls is compounded by the failure of many schools to challenge gender stereotypes in choices of courses and careers. One in four girls interviewed in Girls Futures report 2022, feel like they cannot take part in some pathways because of their gender.

Our schools were founded with a vision that all girls’ would have the same educational opportunities as their brothers. GDST schools are set up to challenge the gender asymmetries that still pervade the wider world. We are tackling the social mobility crises and helping transform the life chances of girls around the UK who due to their financial disadvantage, would not otherwise be able to access our education. We see bursaries at a GDST school as the best catalyst a girl can receive at age 11.
