5.5 million UK women faced economic abuse at the hands of a current or former partner in the last year. Abusers often plunge survivors and their children into homelessness and poverty. With your donation, we can help survivors and their children to rebuild their lives after economic abuse.

One in five women in the UK has experienced economic abuse, a form of domestic abuse, by a current or former partner. The effects can last a lifetime, with some never free of the abuser’s control – left in debt, without access to money or a home. It is not well-recognised or understood and many women are unable to name their experience. The failure of policies, systems and services to identify economic abuse and to provide safe and effective responses has a devastating impact on their lives.

Surviving Economic Abuse is guided and informed by women with lived experience and our research is a catalyst for change. We raise public understanding and awareness of economic abuse and campaign for behaviour changes. We support and train women’s sector professionals and drive improvements across the financial services sector. We work with decision-makers for changes in legislation, policy and regulation, and influence government policies and practices.
