To continue our Art Therapy service in East Lothian - the only one of its kind. This service provides therapeutic support to vulnerable young people aged 12-18 in East Lothian to improve their mental health. Art Therapy works well with young people who find traditional talking therapies difficult.

Young people in East Lothian are accessing mental health support in greater numbers. There is not enough capacity to meet demand. Many of these young people find talking therapies (like Counselling) either difficult to engage with or do not decrease their mental health distress as much as they would like. A service like Art Therapy would help but currently the only independent Art Therapy service is provided by MYPAS and the funding for this successful pilot service is due to end in summer 2024.

We will provide a qualified & experienced Art Therapist to work with vulnerable young people. This will provide a vital alternative to existing mental health supports in East Lothian. We have already piloted this service and the need and demand is overwhelming. Weekly art therapy sessions will provide a safe space where young people can develop a positive relationship with the therapist and use art work to express emotions, thoughts and feelings - leading to improved mental health and wellbeing
