Forces Children Scotland is raising funds to support children and young people from armed forces and veteran families to better understand and overcome unique mental health and wellbeing challenges, through its Your Mind Matters Project, via one-to-one, peer, and digital support strands.

    Situation

    Over 80% of children and young people from armed forces and veteran families, who engaged the charity in the past five years, have said they have faced mental health and wellbeing challenges. Factors can include, parental deployment, uncertainty concerning global tensions, bereavement, family separation, relationship breakdowns, isolation, and loneliness, adapting to disrupted education, friendships, and routines to caring for a loved one with life-changing physical or psychological wounds.

    Solution

    Forces Children Scotland's Your Mind Matters Project will deliver specialist one-to-one and peer support sessions in Hermitage Academy, Helensburgh where over 300 S1-S6 pupils from armed forces communities presently attend. Moreover, the project will work directly with children & young people from armed forces communities in the West of Scotland to co-produce digital mental health and wellbeing resources on its Your Mind Matters Digital Hub to support over 12,500 fellow peers across Scotland.
