In 2022, 18% of children aged 7-16 and 26% of young people aged 17-19 had a probable mental disorder. This grew from 12% and 10% in 2017, and 16% and 17% respectively in 2020 (NHS). This steep rise reflects the long-term effects of the pandemic on the wellbeing of children, young people and families, which followed years of underinvestment in mental health services. More children are reaching a mental health crisis, as early intervention services struggle to meet the growing demand.

WLAC is a small, local, independent charity providing free professional, time-unlimited, solution-focused, strengths-based counselling and therapy services for children, young people and families on low incomes. Our qualified and experienced team of therapists offers a range of early intervention services that support clients to recognise their strengths and build confidence and resilience, supporting them to make long term change, helping children and young people to fulfil their potential.
