For the past 20 years, Global Generation has a long legacy of building green spaces in collaboration with London's young people, children and families. In March we accessed our first 1000 year permanent site, providing opportunities for them to co-create a new garden for future generations to come.

The new site, which sits just off York Way in the Caledonian ward of Islington, is in an area vulnerable to the adverse risks of climate change due to air pollution and large scale development. This threatens the long term health and wellbeing of young people living in the area. Access to green, safe spaces for children and young people is low and social deprivation levels are the highest in the borough. Young people often feel excluded and their voices not heard in decision making in the area
In building these sites, we bring different people together to have a say and become involved in its creation. This creates greater connections between young people, improves the local environment (through circular design, material re-use and creating wildlife habitats), and supports young people to build their confidence, improve their wellbeing, learn new skills, form new friendships and develop practical ways to have a positive ecological and social impact on the world around them.
