We are raising funds to support our vital bereavement services for children and young people aged 11-24years. The funding will provide counselling and wellbeing support to help young people manage the symptoms of their grief including reducing their anxiety. This will mean improved mental health.

Mental health problems can be caused or exacerbated by bereavement. Prolonged grief can include significant emotional distress and changes to a person’s level of functioning. We are seeing more complex cases with young people, many of whom have thoughts around suicide ideation. There has been a significant increase in safeguarding issues in this age group. Body image is frequently a major difficulty for young people and they are more vulnerable as a direct consequence of their bereavement.

We provide an early advice line at the point of contact. Counselling and/or Wellbeing is tailored to the young person’s own individual needs based on a 2-stage assessment. We help young people express their feelings and grief; remember their loved one in a meaningful way and develop positive coping strategies that can be used in all areas of their life. We provide support at outreach centres to help reduce time and money spent travelling as well as outdoor sessions depending on individual needs.
