    Situation

Rape and sexual violence has devastating and long lasting impacts on individuals' mental health, and mainstream mental health support services are not always equipped to respond to the needs of survivors. Some forms of talking therapies can contribute to retraumatisation, by requiring survivors to repeat their experiences in detail, or by not offering enough time and space for a true therapeutic relationship to be established.

    Solution

We are the only specialist provider locally offering long term (20 weeks) counselling that is trauma informed, person centred and effective, for over 30 years. Our monitoring tells us that survivors feel more confident, in control of their lives, able to take better care of themselves and access support and form healthy supportive relationships after receiving Counselling from RSACC. With demand higher than ever we want to increase Counselling capacity in order to be there for survivors.
