    Situation

In London between July and September '23, 4,068 people were rough sleeping (Crisis), a 12% increase on the previous quarter. Of those people 49% have mental health needs. Rough sleepers tend not to access mental health support, due to disengagement with health and support services and, often, mistrust towards institutional settings. This lack of support severely curtails their chances of recovery, and their mental health is often a determinant as to why many of our clients return to the streets.

    Solution

A Place Within delivers professional psychotherapy services to our clients where they are bedding down or at locations of their choice. By breaking down barriers and building trust with our clients, our therapists give them the mental health support they need to deal with their trauma, anxiety, depression or any other issues preventing them from getting out of the cycle of homeless. This innovative service is vital to helping our clients to ultimately to get off and stay off of the streets.
