    Situation

In Somerset the prevalence of common mental health conditions is increasing and rates for suicide and self-harm in Somerset are consistently higher than nationally. Demand for mental health services is high and there is a lack of provision. Young people experiencing mental health issues are faced with increasing waiting list times and impossible pressure on services. This leaves many feeling in despair or unable to cope, causing further deterioration in their conditions.

    Solution

We support young people with their mental health through free 1 to 1 counselling with experienced counsellors, alongside peer support and a group for young carers. We cover all areas of mental health and wellbeing support including trauma. In our rural area for some time we have been the only provider of free, accessible mental health support services for young people. Those using our services say that we provide something unique and effective that they have not been able to find elsewhere.
