    Situation

The state of mental health in the UK is in rapid decline. One in six of us will have a mental health problem in any given week. Close to 6,000 people will die by suicide in the UK in the next year and by 2030, depression will be the world’s leading cause of ill-health. NHS Digital reports that 1 in 4 young people between the age of 17-19 are living with a probable mental illness. Services are overstretched, demand overwhelming, and the prevention of poor mental health more important than ever.

    Solution

Our approach to prevention addresses social inequalities by delivering interventions to those most vulnerable to developing mental health problems due to factors such as poverty, racism and childhood trauma. Our key groups are at-risk young people, people living with long term health conditions, families at elevated risk, and refugees and asylum seekers. We also reach the general public at scale with information and advice through our flagship Mental Health Awareness Week.
