It is estimated that 50% of refugees of war have PTSD. Current rates of mental illhealth and post traumatic stress are likely to be a lot higher, as victims suffer repeated re traumatisation in their search for safety and security for themselves and their families. PTSD often involves flashbacks and nightmares that force victims to relive the most terrifying and horrific moments of their trauma, and physical symptoms that prevent people from being able to work.
TTI exists to provide urgent trauma treatment to victims of collective violence. We (1) treat victims directly through our Trauma Clinic and (2) work through partnership organisations to build a trauma-informed society, safe for victims, staff and volunteers. Our Trauma Clinic treats complex trauma which public mental health services rarely have the capacity or expertise to deliver effectively.
