Help us take practical action for the wildlife of the Usk and South East Valleys river catchments. Your support will help show how pollution is impacting wildlife, whilst informing and enabling us to deliver small-scale, water quality and habitat interventions to help freshwater wildlife recover.

More than half of Wales' rivers are not in good ecological status, due to sewage effluent, bad agricultural practices and climate change. We know all too well that pollution is causing the wildlife of Gwent's magnificent rivers and their tributaries, to die. Poor water quality is threatening species which indicate river's health - from flowering Water Crowfoot to wafting Mayflies, reducing shelter and food for our iconic wildlife, from leaping Salmon to our only aquatic songbird, the Dipper.

Working with volunteers and other river catchment stakeholders, we will strengthen and share evidence about the ecological status of wildlife features of the Usk and Eastern Valleys rivers, in particular strengthening monitoring and recording of wildlife such as riverfly, Water Crowfoot, Dipper and Otter. We will also take practical, local action to directly improve habitats for freshwater wildlife, including by improving the quality of water flowing into the rivers from tributaries.
