We're on a mission to help our insect population. We're transforming 14 of our area's local parks, from intensively mown deserts into pollen-rich, biodiverse green spaces - encouraging wildlife to flourish and improving the lives of the local community.

    Situation

Insects pollinate our food crops and are vital to the survival of the plants that support our wildlife. Habitat, food & breeding site loss means they have declined by 60% over the last twenty years, In our area, a large number of community parks are just barren green fields, due to funding cuts - devoid of wildlife and people. Housing targets have made these parks isolated islands, meaning wildlife is failing to flourish, increased localised flooding, and these unloved areas lack any beauty.

    Solution

Working in 14 local parks, in some of our area's most densely populated & deprived parts, and in partnership with people from the local community, we will plant spring flowering bulbs, sow wildflower drifts, plants trees and grasses, and create ponds and hedges. We will also run a series of events to share the importance of pollen-rich planting and give advice about how this can be replicated in residents' own gardens and schools.
