Situation
LGBTQ+ people experience disproportionate levels of mental health concerns, including heightened rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. These issues are often compounded by the impact of social isolation and discrimination, leading to adverse outcomes for LGBTQ+ communities including poorer wellbeing and increased risk of self-harm and suicide. Our counselling service works to bridge these disparities, and to empower LGBTQ+ people to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
Solution
Our counselling service plays a crucial role in providing a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ to explore and address their mental health concerns. Over 70% of our service users said that they accessed our services because it was LGBTQ+ specific, showing a need for an LGBTQ+ specific service. By offering a specialist service, we provide accessible and culturally competent care, in turn, improving the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people across Greater Manchester.
