    Situation

Trees for Life has been running conservation volunteering weeks for people from all walks of life since 1993. Feedback from volunteers suggests that being actively involved in a landscape-scale rewilding project in a wild and beautiful part of the Highlands gives them a deep sense of purpose and wellbeing. However, many people are less able to access wild nature because they face significant life challenges including trauma and displacement.

    Solution

Rewilding weeks at Dundreggan have been proven to provide many things for volunteers including an increase in confidence and self-esteem, enhanced knowledge of the natural world including habitats and ecosystems, practical skills and a deepening connection with Scotland’s landscape and culture. The challenge of volunteering outside their usual support group has also been shown to increase people’s ability to deal with social and group situations in their daily lives back home.
