Imagine last Christmas being the last time you could see your child open their presents. Parents living with inherited progressive sight loss face immense mental health challenges. Have I passed this on to my child, will I remember my child’s face? This project provides vital hope/support.

    Situation

The challenges faced by parents with visual impairments (VI) extend far beyond the physical aspects, delving into the often-overlooked realm of mental health. The unique circumstances these families navigate can contribute significantly to anxiety, ill mental health, and feelings of loneliness. Poor mental health is widely recognised as an issue for those affected by sight loss, however there is a lack of tangible action and support. Mental health services are struggling to cope with demand.

    Solution

This project is a game-changer, offering a safe space to share experiences, frustrations, triumphs without judgment, easing their struggles. This innovative approach addresses the significant emotional challenges faced by parents, by fostering a sense of community, understanding, and shared strength. The initiative aligns with the principles of empathy and support that are essential for creating a more inclusive/compassionate society. With better outcomes for parents and their children.
