OTR opened its doors to young people in 1977 to support them through difficult periods in their lives. We are an established, well-loved, grassroots, mental health charity, supporting young people who need it most; offering free services, including individual and family counselling and group work.

Situation
OTR is based in Havant, a severely deprived borough. The young people we support are impacted by social factors known to detriment mental health, wellbeing and life outcomes, including being from families with low income; with associated inter-generational mental health conditions and substance misuse issues. Multiple pockets of deprivation and poverty exist, which results in a significant over representation of mental health and wellbeing needs in children, young people and their families.
Solution
By providing free services to young people who need support with their mental health, through 121 counselling, family counselling, group work in schools and the community and supporting families, through early intervention. We use Goals Based Outcomes (GBO) to chart progress with clients who see us for counselling. Our latest service user GBO results demonstrate improvements across the board for our top 10 goals, including anxiety and worry, low mood and depression, anger and self-harm.
