The iconic Turtle Dove is the fastest declining bird in the country. They migrate to breed in the UK every year, but habitat loss is having a huge impact on their numbers. With few known breeding spots left in southern England, Wiltshire is one of the few counties they still call home. Land with a mosaic of trees, scrub, and grassland is important for breeding. We will improve habitat in South Wiltshire, giving these beautiful doves the space to thrive.

We urgently need to create habitat for Turtle Doves, to prevent them being lost to the UK. We expect to buy land close to an existing Wiltshire Wildlife Trust reserve in South Wiltshire and improve the habitat for Turtle Doves. Records show Turtle Doves used to present here. Securing more habitat, and managing it effectively, provides essential space for Turtle Doves to move into. New habitat will offer a mix of trees, scrub, and grass, to provide ideal breeding conditions.
