Energy inefficient homes account for a huge chunk of the UK 's carbon emissions - about 17%. Through our Open Eco Homes and Thermal Imaging programmes, we help people retrofit homes so they are healthy, comfortable, and sustainable by providing quality local advice and practical support.

    Situation

There are over 250,000 homes in Cambridgeshire requiring home energy improvement. Sadly, the trajectory for decarbonising and improving our homes is woefully inadequate, and hampered by poor messaging, a disparate retrofit sector, underinvestment and cost barriers. Many people are unaware of or unable to access information relevant to their home and the positive improvements they can make. Meanwhile inefficient, damp and poorly ventilated homes are contributing to poor health and fuel poverty.

    Solution

Our Open Eco Homes project has reached over 106,000 people to date. Our 2024 programme will continue to deliver engaging content, and in this our 15th year, we plan a celebratory networking event to foster collaboration and bolster a local retrofit sector. Our goal: to enhance local retrofit, build on our advice and directory services, continue to expand thermal imaging in Cambridgeshire with more volunteers, resources, and to support similar initiatives across the region and nationwide.
