Situation
Sustainable food production is a key tool in addressing the climate and nature crisis. Climate change and environmental degradation is effecting small farmer’s livelihoods. In many parts of the world, including the countries Bees Abroad works in, farming is one of the few opportunities to make a livelihood but offers limited security and can negatively impact the local environment.
Solution
Bees Abroad works to address needs around more secure livelihoods through sustainable beekeeping. Adding bee farming to a small holding or community improves financial security. We train communities on sustainable beekeeping practices that are appropriate to the local environment. We also provide education on how the use of pesticides can harm bees and the local environment and encourage the planting of include native bee friendly tree planting where appropriate.
