Organic food & farming can deliver extensive solutions for reaching net zero targets, protecting nature & providing secure livelihoods. But, in the UK, it is not reaching its potential. Organic is not currently affordable, available & accessible to everyone in society. And this needs to change.

In the UK, 16% of species are facing extinction & agriculture contributes over 10% of GHG emissions. This is inextricably tied to intensive farming. In other countries, organic is understood as a solution for reaching net zero targets, protecting nature, boosting public health & providing secure livelihoods. Yet, in the UK, organic food isn’t meeting its potential because it is not valued by financial institutions or government, supported on farms or by retailers, or available to many consumers.

Our project addresses challenges to organic production & consumption. We aim to ensure organic is: 1) valued by policy makers, the financial sector, retailers & the public; 2) supported through policy, farmer advice, & innovation; 3) widely available in communities, public settings, & retail. We will clearly evidence organic’s contributions to ESG targets, climate impact & public good to influence stakeholders including policymakers, retailers & consumers to support organic.
