Climate Ed is an educational charity which teaches children about climate change. We send volunteers into primary schools to deliver workshops about climate science and carbon literacy. We aim to inspire children to take an interest in climate change and empower them to take action on the issue.

    Situation

The 2021 August IPCC report warned that we are facing a ‘Code Red’ on climate change. To reduce our CO2 emissions major shifts in behaviour are required; 32% of the emissions reductions needed by 2035 depend on lifestyle change (House of Lords report, Oct 2022). Climate change is the top environmental issue children are concerned about but only 4% feel they are taught enough about it in school. Also 75% of teachers feel they haven’t received adequate training to teach about climate change.

    Solution

Our key aims are to: - Increase understanding of climate change among children and what they can do about it. - Inspire children and their families to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions (in domestic energy, travel, food and general consumption). - Reduce climate anxiety among children by making them feel empowered to take action. We do this by sending trained Climate Ed volunteers into schools to deliver a structured programme of workshops about carbon literacy and climate action.
