The Foundling Museum seeks to improve the lives of disadvantaged children & young people through creative activities. This campaign will help expand our impact, to Stoke-on-Trent & other areas of low provision, to have a positive impact on more young lives, including those with care-experience.

Children from disadvantaged backgrounds often have poor access to the creative arts, especially in areas of deprivation, with low cultural provision. Fewer lessons in art & music are in schools, whilst children in care & care-leavers lack access to creative activities due to financial barriers & lack of familial support, whilst also having a high prevalence of mental health issues & poor emotional wellbeing. In Stoke-on-Trent, 24% of children live in low-income homes with low cultural provision.

The Museum has a strong record of working with children & young people to improve attainment & wellbeing. This campaign helps the Museum to expand, to serve more children & young people in areas of poor cultural provision in Stoke-on-Trent & Greater London, in partnership with children’s charity Thrive at Five. We seek to work with early years children, families & young people with care-experience, to improve wellbeing, relationships & self development & to train more artist educators.
