At Hull Truck Theatre we aim to open the doors to our youth theatre classes for children living in financial hardship in Hull postcodes HU3 and HU6. We will remove financial and mental barriers to creative and fulfilling experiences to help local young people find their voice in a modern world.

Young people in Hull experiencing socio-economic challenges, specifically in HU3 and HU6 postcodes, are at risk of being isolated and drawn into anti-social behaviour and are vulnerable to poor development in relation to basic life skills and self-esteem. Many residents in our target areas aren’t able to fund experiences that offer safe spaces which offer a creative outlet for the young people who need it most. We aim to be the mitigating force which gives them the conviction to succeed.

We will remove the barriers that might be associated with crossing the ‘threshold’ of Hull Truck Theatre for young people. Financial support can include a bursary place for individuals, offering travel to the theatre or continuing community outreach in local youth centres, reaching the untapped talent of this area. Offering a free youth theatre place to a child is offering them a chance for strengthened wellbeing and connecting them with new peers in a safe and expressive environment.
