    Situation

Islington has high deprivation levels for young people which creates substantial barriers for them to engage with cultural activity. It has the highest % of young people living in low income households and is the most densely populated area in the UK, with higher than average numbers of young people with special educational needs. These are all factors which sadly reduce the ability for young people to engage with the arts, and achieve their considerable social, personal and creative benefits.

    Solution

We provide free weekly activities across music, dance and theatre for young people from Islington aged 7 to 19. We deliver fully inclusive sessions which cater for all needs and abilities. Of our current membership, at least 70% come from low-income families, 62% are global majority, and 38% have a disability, mental health or learning need. This creates a myriad of creative opportunities for young people, and enables them to create work which speaks to their collective experiences and ideas.
