The opportunity to access high quality cultural activity is the right of everyone. However, the offer provided across Burnley's cultural venues is currently limited in terms of reflecting the diversity of the local population and in accommodating the different needs of audiences. This disparity requires addressing through connecting and building relationships with communities, enabling us to work collaboratively with them to programme and deliver an inclusive cultural offer.

As the borough's lead for culture, BLC is well placed to undertake this pilot. Building on recent partnership projects that we have been delivering through Burnley Mechanics Theatre, we will work with target groups within the community to co-curate programmes of shows and activities which meet a more diverse range of needs and interests. We will work collaboratively and involve communities at every step of the way to enable them to feel greater ownership over the theatre as a place for them.
