One of Australia's most iconic animals is under significant threat. The conservation status of the Koala was recently changed from vulnerable to endangered, reflecting the species' increasing extinction risk. Your support can help us protect this unique animal and its habitat before it is too late.

Interacting threats propelling the Koala population towards extinction include habitat loss and fragmentation, inappropriate fire regimes, climate change impacts, disease, and feral dogs and cats. The 2019–2020 catastrophic bushfires are estimated to have burned 9% of habitat in New South Wales (NSW) where the Koala is known or likely to occur. It is critical to protect high quality Koala habitat from major threats such as intense wildfire and land clearing before further numbers are lost.

AWC is responding to this crisis by protecting vital Koala habitat at AWC's Gorton Forest Sanctuary, NSW. The sanctuary is located in an area recognised by the NSW Government as being of regional Koala significance and acts as an important wildlife corridor. Your support can help AWC deliver on-site science and conservation land management, including weed, fire, feral herbivore and predator management, to help protect the Koala and hundreds of other species that call the sanctuary home.
