We are using visual art to make healthcare settings less sterile and unwelcoming. Research shows us that having art in hospitals can reduce stress levels, help people to feel hope and a less defined by their illness or condition. It can also support the welfare of stressed health care professionals and provide opportunities for contemplation and respite for visitors.

Placing the art in reception areas, along corridors and in waiting rooms can provide a welcome distraction and source of respite for patients and their loved ones. It offers a focal point and can provide a topic of conversation that isn't focused on ill health. Testimonials tell us that art can make healthcare settings feel less sterile and unfamiliar. They provide pops of colour and connections with the outside world and can help to soothe and provide comfort at times of stress and discomfort.
