This campaign has now closed

Over 97% of the UK’s species-rich grassland has been lost in recent decades. We are working to reverse this trend in Herefordshire by conserving, restoring, and creating flower-rich grassland, and educating the public about the benefits of this habitat and the urgent need to conserve it.

    Situation

Over 97% of the UK’s species-rich grassland has been lost in recent decades, and this important habitat now accounts for less than 1% of the landscape. Many people are still not aware of the importance and benefits of flower-rich grassland, or lack the skills and support needed to get involved in conservation efforts. Many landowners are also not aware of the local examples of good practice that can be learnt from.

    Solution

A series of free events, discussions and training days for adults and young people within Herefordshire, to exchange knowledge and provide the skills and support to help with the urgent need for conservation work in the county. We will host visits to meadows and restoration sites, presentations from specialists, plant survey training, and a forum for people to discuss and share skills and experience, all helping to build our network of landowners, enthusiasts, and citizen scientists.
