    Situation

The power of the arts to enrich, ‘change and shape young people’s lives’ is undisputed (Cultural Learning Alliance, 2017). Yet, since 2009, local authority budgets for arts and culture have halved, and arts education spending per pupil has fallen 9%, the largest cut in over 40 years, eroding arts in schools and denying children opportunities to explore their creativity and imagination, develop new skills and self-expression, and experience the joy that music, dance and design ignite.

    Solution

National Schools Programme is our flagship schools programme that supports sustainable creative learning in classrooms nation-wide. Delivered through Creative Professional Development workshops, we empower 1,300+ teachers to deliver bespoke resources and curriculum-led lesson plans, based on opera, ballet and design. Free-to-access for all schools, and focusing on areas with limited cultural provision and of economic disadvantage, this work breaks down barriers to ballet and opera to inspire new creativity.
