MiSST closes the gap in musical education provision and achievement for children in disadvantaged school communities. It presently works with 27 secondary schools in areas of considerable disadvantage to provide free expert music tuition and a musical instrument for every Key Stage 3 student in partner schools. MiSST aims to increase achievement in music but also to develop self-discipline to support students' wider academic and social development.

Partner schools receive training in excellent music teaching/tutoring, free instruments for every KS3 child to use in weekly music lessons and for students to practice at home; Programmes of Excellence allow disadvantaged students to access free Saturday Music School, opportunities to rehearse and perform at prestigious venues, and attend intensive music based residential and day courses and events.
