GROW provides children aged 3-7, from areas of disadvantage, with their first arts experience, sparking their future interest in the arts. GROW uses performance to increase understanding and wonder for the natural world, its future and the role we play in looking after it.

    Situation

Children experiencing disadvantage and those living in the West Midlands are amongst the lowest group engaging with the natural environment. The need for children to ‘learn to love’ the environment is an essential part of childhood development and the arts can make a powerful contribution to this aim, but access to cultural opportunities are also affected by the impact of living in areas of high deprivation, leaving children doubly disadvantaged.

    Solution

Using our powerful brand of physical theatre GROW intervenes to alleviate the impacts of poverty on children in Coventry and Warwickshire, delivering a performance project that actively tackles the barriers faced by children to gain access to the life changing potential of physical theatre. GROW promotes engagement with nature through an immersive, theatrically rich experience that reduce barriers to engagement in performance and merges the local and urban with the natural.
