Cuts to music education in schools have had a dramatic effect on who is able to afford tuition. Financial pressure on Local Authorities has seen youth services and cultural spending budgets cut or axed in their entirety. Those feeling the cuts most are young people, who have nowhere to go to pursue their musical passion. It’s even more stark for those from disadvantaged backgrounds who face inequity in accessing music education and miss out on opportunities to be part of a creative community.
Solution
SUMMER RUNNINGS is our £FREE, open access youth club for jazz musicians aged 11-25, offering 2 weeks of jazz development sessions/masterclasses, music industry talks and daily jams at London's Southbank Centre, helping bridge critical gaps in education, cultural, and youth services. We create a safe space where they can receive outstanding quality jazz tuition from leading lights of the UK jazz scene, build their confidence, feel inspired, be part of a creative community…and have fun!
