Situation
Africa’s vast forests are home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, including species such as gorilla, chimpanzee, okapi and many unique birds and amphibians. They also sustain livelihoods and regulate global climate. However, these vital ecosystems face unprecedented threats from deforestation, degradation and unsustainable resource use. It is vital that we find effective and sustainable ways to protect and restore Africa’s forests for the benefit of both wildlife and people.
Solution
Tusk champions community-led conservation. We work with the best local organisations, providing funding and building capacity to maximise impact on the ground. A number of our projects focus their efforts on forest conservation, such as gorilla conservation in Uganda, safeguarding chimpanzee populations in Nigeria, amphibian conservation in Ghana, and protection of the okapi in DRC. We support local leadership and empower local communities to be active stewards of their forests and its wildlife.
