    Situation

We believe that classical music is poorly distributed, and this contributes to a sense of division in society. The cost of staging & attending large scale choral works with orchestras is often prohibitively high and cannot be supported through ticket revenues alone, even at premium prices. This, in turn drives down accessibility. Mental anxiety and illness is increasing nationally. Engaging with classical music has been shown to have a very positive influence but is not widely accessible.

    Solution

We can play a role in resolving the disparity in exposure to classical music and its benefits through facilitating and demonstrating its accessibility by staging a multi-part experience of Bach’s B Minor Mass in July ‘24 with diverse participation of less-engaged communities to celebrate the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of large choral singing, through the music of Bach. This will extend BFC’s role celebrating and shaping awareness of the benefits and joy of classical music.
