The Covid pandemic & cost-of-living crisis have made life worse for 1000s of families in North East England. Creative play is the engine of child development, an instigator of parental wellbeing, and bring joy to the lives of all it touches. We plan to bring its benefits to 19,000 people in 2024.

    Situation

Since 2020, post natal depression has risen by 42% in the Tees Valley, children's school readiness has deteriorated by 30%, and household poverty has spiked - in the postcodes nearest to our venue in Darlington half of children now grow up poor. Research by the British Academy shows that lack of creativity in family play is a crucial contributor to these challenges. How are families expected to change this situation if they cannot access or afford the right kind of support?

    Solution

Creative Children Stronger Families is a suite of offers that can bring families together, teach them how to play creatively, and change their outcomes for the better. Research by York St John University has show that Creative Play installations, workshops and activities improve outcomes for children and their grown ups, reducing depression, speeding up child development and strengthening vital family relationships. We want to expand these opportunities so no child or patent misses out.
