The Ecology Centre will develop our existing land to provide healthy local seasonal food that will be used in the community and our cafe. We will also provide small plots for people who want to grow & consume their own food. We will employ a lead gardener & mentor volunteers to support this development.

    Situation

Efficient and environmentally friendly land utilisation. Grow fruit and veg in a sustainable biodiverse fashion. Community engagement through plots, (currently 4 year waiting list), and cafeteria use. Food waste reduction through aligning the consumption needs with the growth. Improved dietary opportunities due to healthy nature of the food. Employment and training through hiring a gardener and mentoring volunteers. Mental and Physical health improvement for the young, elderly and vulnerable.

    Solution

The Ecology Centre shall: Develop our land to grow foods in a sustainable way to provide healthy dietary options to those in need, through our community fridge, plot owners and café. Provide small plots to those who want to learn to grow and consume their own food but do not have access to gardens. Provide a job and training for a lead gardener to manage this, and utilise volunteers who may have challenges limiting employability. Improve mental, physical well being and purpose.
