Situation
Learning disabled and autistic people face multiple disadvantages. Many experience exclusion, social isolation and discrimination on a daily basis. Financial hardship is widespread and escalating under the cost of living crisis. People in our community have felt more lonely and anxious over the past three years which has impacted on their self-esteem and mental health. There are few opportunities to take part in high quality activities that provide a sense of purpose and improve wellbeing.
Solution
Allsorts enables learning disabled and autistic adults to access regular creative and social sessions: ‘Everything is enjoyable!’- participant. Four six-week seasons are held each year with weekly events on Thursdays. Time is allowed for people to see their friends. Allsorts is co-designed by the Allsorts Co-producers, a group of 12 learning disabled adults who decide what they want each season to include. The project fills a vital gap in provision at a time of increased pressure on services.
