The piano has a timeless popularity and it connects across generations, music genres and styles. Keyboard sales and online lessons are growing, piano tops the classical streaming charts, and the instrument is at the heart of Yorkshire's manufacturing and cultural heritage. Yet pianos have disappeared from our homes, schools, pubs and venues, leaving a poverty of opportunities for people to hear, play and connect with them. Train stations are often the only place for people to play them.

We want to tell the stories of the amazing every day people who play our pianos, and share their inspiration. One of the world's greatest music contests, The Leeds International Piano Competition, is replacing and animating pianos in shopping centres, hospitals, schools & transport hubs in Leeds and Bradford. The public pianos offer free piano lessons, relaxed performances, community workshops, and people can enjoy visiting the city through an iconic sculpture trail made of upcycled pianos.
